Our mission is to expose, through words, images, music, comedy and performance the transcribed hopes, dreams, visions, and breakthroughs of the underground arts scene of early Post-Millennial New York City.

We believe that by curating spaces - stage, virtual and in print - where people are supported and listened to we will build a community of artists and audience working towards the true equality of humankind. We believe in outreach, inclusion, equality, respect for women, for minorities, and for the LGBT community. We are all human and we all matter. A commitment of the artist to connecting to community and audience enriches both and the smallest performance can make a difference to one.

So here we stand, keeping art an integral part of the culture of the city and humanity, art as an informed voice, performance as a place to connect. All of it about the heart and soul of a person, not the bottom line.

In our short history (a)muse has risen from six artists with a dream to having been accepted as residents at Horse Trade theater group ("...arguably the epicenter of the independent theater world in New York." -- Leonard Jacobs) .

Every month, (a)muse brings you, through its roster of shows, the best in underground music, comedy, and performance. Our slogan is Raw Art Now, and we feature acts who live it. We celebrate women who share their voices and their experiences. We reach out to marginalized minds and encourage them to break through. We, like Horse Trade, are committed to art over profit and keep our shows affordable, with most door charges being 5 dollars or under. Our monthly zine is free, and we have a weekly public access show in which we feature the best performances from (a)muse events.

Since our founding last year, (a)muse has been producing art in the East Village on spit and a grin, determined to keep the underground alive. We are now solicitng donations for projects and production equipment. Goals are to build and broadcast our community to the world, through print, stage, public tv and internet.

To acheive our goals and continue with projects already begun we must update our office. Our current equipment has reached legacy age where it simply can not haul the load any more, from tracking money to editing video. As a roving band of artists we do not have one stationary office and work in a portable manner. To support this art-style we are looking to invest in one portable computer and peripheral set-up that will meet our needs for years to come.

Our Goal is to have the new equipment by Jan, 2010. Let the (a)muse needs money 2009 campaign commence. Our top goal is $3,000.

If you would like to know what equipment your money will help us purchase or equipment you can out right buy for us, you will find our Needs List below.

macbook pro - 13 inch 4gb ram - $1500
applecare - $349
printer/scanner - $100
Canon VIXIA HG20 video camera - $700
Backup and Storage Drive Raid - $300

Any and all money that comes in from this Donor Drive 2009 will be applied to above or similar items, depending on market rates and constraints at time of achieving goal amount.

We are also currently in the process of setting up not for profit status so all donations will be tax deductible. Raw Art Now!
